Joung Hyun-Ju

Kim Young-Keun
Abstract
This study examined the mediating effects of self-compassion and external contingencies of self-worth on the relationship between college students¡¯ evaluative concerns, perfectionism, and social anxiety; and the structural relationships between the major variables. Participants were 401 students attending four-year universities in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province. Correlation and structural analyses were conducted to evaluate the relationships between each variable. Competitive models 1, 2, and 3 were determined by erasing the paths one-by-one between each variable in order to identify influential paths from independent variables to dependent variables. The final model included the adoption of competitive model 3, with significant mediating effects on the main path. The results indicated that evaluative concerns and perfectionism had a sequential mediating effect on the path leading to social anxiety through self-compassion and external contingencies of self-worth. The significance and limitations of the study, and directions for future research are presented.
